Free After-School Club
The After-school Baton Club is an opportunity for children to try out the sport of baton. We have three terms (Fall, Winter, Spring), each culminating in a performance to show off our new skills. The focus of the practices is on having fun while learning how to twirl and dance.
PRACTICES:
The club
practices are on Tuesdays, from 3:35-4:00. Parents and siblings may
wait in the hallway or play on the playground during class time.
Please pick up your chlld promptly at 4:00 as there is no child-care
during team practices, which begin immediately after the club
practices.
BATONS:
The coach has a
set of batons that the club twirlers may borrow for class; however,
they may not take them home. If you want a baton for practicing at
home, you can buy a toy baton at a toy store. You can also buy a
"real baton" from the coach for $26.
CLOTHING:
For class,
clothes should be snug, not baggy, so that you don't snag them when
you're twirling. Leggings, tight T-shirts, leotards, etc., are all
good choices. Not recommended: long dresses, flip-flops, or boots.
For performances, twirlers need to wear a plain white T-shirt (not baggy), and dark pants or leggings. They will be provided with accessories to make the costume complete! Twirlers should wear plain white sneakers for the performance.
HAIR & JEWELRY:
Boys and girls should remove all jewelry and watches before class.
For class, girls' hair should be pulled back in a ponytail. If she likes to wear it down, you can send her with a hairband so she can pull it back for class.
These hair and jewelry requirements are for safety and ease of learning.
For performances, girls MUST have their hair in a slicked back ponytail with no wispies. Look for more details before each performance.
